Collision of Fate
Spot of Culture with Daniel Geller

Do we have the power to influence events in our interests? A lucky break – coincidence or synchronicity? Is there a higher force in the universe and can we influence it to react to our benefit? How we can use the law of attraction to make events happen in our favor? If you can dream it, then you can do it! Daniel Geller will talk about how dreaming relates to the artist experience in this week’s Spot of Culture.

Bully in My Fist
Barika Edwards Interview 5th grade artist Isiah and Music Teacher Barbara Novick

5th Grader, Isiah Phillip and his music teacher Barbara Novick

The Youtube music video of “Bully in My Fist” is perfect example of the importance of arts in education and how it can meld with everyday curriculum. Brooklyn fifth grader, Isaiah and his father used music and filmmaking to illustrate his anti-bullying lessons. Barika will interview Isiah Phillip.

Isiah is a fifth grader and recent graduate (June 21, 2012) from P.S.52 in Brooklyn. Isiah has always loved music. When he was in the 4th grade he was inspired to write an anti-bullying rap song which he performed at the school talent show as well as other concert venues. Isiah began his instrumental music experiences on the recorder in second grade, and has been playing the violin in school for the last three years. He looks forward to expanding his songwriting, singing and video career.
Barbara has been a music educator with the NYC.Dept. of Education for the past 27 years–26 of which have been spent teaching and working with the children and families of P.S. 52 in Brooklyn, whom she loves dearly. Barbara is also a professional flutist, and currently a member of the Brooklyn Wind Symphony as well as serving on their Board of Directors. Barbara is also proud to be a member of the Music Educators Association of NYC.
